First day

So.... First day of travel is down. Approximately 10 hours in the car. 2 of those unforeseen, and due to getting lost. After 8 hours of joy, happiness, and general family felicity, we experienced 1)missed turn at Chicago and got stuck in traffic for an hour, 2) got on wrong highway, 3)bought an iPass to bypass the tolls and then found it wouldn't activate for 48 hours as the troll  toll lady told us so kindly: thereby eliciting our credit card, and 4)getting lost again and 5) arriving at the hotel and finding out a) the concierge closed and b) the pool closed for renovation.

This had Mom and I looking at each other looking at the 4 other kids bouncing up and down with pent up energy and almost crying.

Needless to say, we hightailed it out of DoubleTree (after eating their cookies) and walked down to the nearest chocolate shop where we ate dinner and consoled each other. Now the fam is occupied watching TV and taking 15 minute showers.

First day down, two to go till the Big City.
